Program Profile
To help create an enabling environment for the judicious utilization of agricultural biotechnology as one of the technology options for the attainment of agriculture and fisheries modernization, improved productivity, climate resiliency, and sustainable and inclusive development.
A food-secure and globally competitive Philippines where citizens live an improved quality of life.
To promote the development, acquisition, dissemination and commercialization of safe and beneficial biotechnologies and products as additional options available to smallholder farmers and fisher folks to meet the challenges and requirements of modernized agriculture and fisheries sectors.
- To support policy development and advocacy related to the generation, use, and commercial application of technologies and products of agricultural biotechnology;
- To support the institutional capacity enhancement of DA regulatory agencies, accredited research/service institutions, and implementing units for them to develop, strengthen, and implement policy and regulatory frameworks for agricultural biotechnology, and related policies that embody Philippine commitment to bilateral and multi-lateral biosafety agreements including, among others, the Cartagena Biosafety Protocol, WTO, CODEX, and FAO;
- To help strengthen the institutional capability of agency members of the DA Agricultural Biotechnology Center and other collaborating agencies/institutions/units/offices as well as Filipino scientists to utilize and manage tools and techniques of agricultural biotechnology through training and short-/medium-term educational opportunities; and
- To assist agency members of the DA Agricultural Biotechnology Center and other collaborating agencies/institutions/units/offices to conduct agricultural biotechnology research/studies, acquire relevant biotech tools, and commercialize locally adapted/generated, safe and beneficial technologies and products; and
- To support the development of communication and advocacy activities that will provide correct, balanced, and useful information to stakeholders; and increase public understanding of agricultural biotechnology.
